If you follow me over on Instagram you’ve noticed I’ve gone a little crazy making needle minders lately. Aren’t they cute? These minders make the perfect gift for swaps etc. What a fabulous way to use up those special little scraps too! OK, enough gushing.
I put together a little tutorial on instagram #needlemindertutorial
Supply list: magnets ( you’ll need two magnets per needle minder), covered button kit (I used size 45 about the size if a quarter with the flat backs), marking pen, super glue, scissors, and fabric scraps.
Follow directions on the back of your covered button kit. This kit came with the handy dandy template. Perfect for fussy cutting. Trace the template on your fabric with your marking pen
Put your fabric right side down into the mold with the button shell on top. You can flip the mold over to see if your fabric is positioned correctly
If you’re happy with the placement of your fabric fold the edges toward the center. Then, take the flat back and press it into the button shell. You could also use the blue pusher that comes with the kit. I find my fingers work best for these larger covered buttons. You’ll feel a snap and all the edges of the flat back will have sunken into the button shell.
Now you have your flat back button! Turn it over and add a dollop of super glue to the center of the flat back. Take your two magnets and press the flat side of one into the super glue. Set it aside to let it dry for a few minutes.
Once the glue is set and completely dry you can use your fancy new needle minder. Sandwich your project between the two magnets to hold the needle minder in place. Disclaimer: @whatthebobbin is not responsible for your new needle minder addiction nor any super glue mishaps. Be careful with your fingers y’all! ✋
I’m having a giveaway over on Instgram for three needle minders. Find this photo in my IG feed and leave a comment for a chance to win. The giveaway is open until 11/29/2014.
